Jets will travel for joint practices with Washington this summer

The Jets will spend several days in Richmond, Virginia for practices before their second preseason game of the summer.

Plenty of veteran players hate the draft. For them, the draft brings a fresh crop of young players who may end up taking their jobs.

At his Pro Day workout, Kahlil McKenzie — a defensive tackle at Tennessee — performed offensive line drills. And he did well enough to get the Chiefs to draft Kahlil as a guard.

“I told him, ‘It’s a conspiracy. This is you. You did this,’” Kahlil McKenzie said. “He always wanted me to play offensive line. He was happy to see me play offensive line and said that I moved really well doing it. He said I looked like an offensive lineman doing those drills.”’

Maybe it all wouldn’t translate perfectly to the NFL.

Still, the Yankees have no choice but to ride Gray out.

They’re already a starting pitcher short with Jordan Montgomery (elbow strain) out until sometime in June. Domingo German has jumped into that spot.

Luis Cessa (left oblique strain) has been out since April 19 with no timetable for his return. One of their top pitching prospects, Chance Adams, hasn’t been very good at Triple-A and on Friday, Justus Sheffield, their best pitching prospect, was pulled from his start with shoulder stiffness.

There are no other clear options. The Yankees will have to let Gray figure it out.

Vernon Shazier said before his interview with ESPN that he couldn’t get into specifics of his son’s injury. The Steelers have not elaborated in detail what Shazier’s surgery entailed nor about his prognosis.

“We’re praying for healing and keeping our mind and faith strong. We know we’re in a deep valley, but we do not feel alone,” said Vernon Shazier, an NFL chaplain who added: “It’s easy to be faithful in a storm, but we’re not talking about a drizzle. We’re talking about a hurricane, a category 5 [hurricane], lots of metaphors to describe it.”

On Tuesday, Shazier was announced as a Pro Bowl representative for his 89 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles through 12 games and his teammates who’ve visited him say he’s eager to talk football strategy for the Steelers as they look to the playoffs.sabres_074
