She averaged 14 points, 5.6 assists, and connected on 53 percent of her three-point shots over the course of those five games. The Stars are currently on a three-game winning streak, and while they won’t make the postseason this year, this is evidence that letting Plum develop could have a great payoff for San Antonio in the future.
Plum did sprain her ankle in the preseason but has since recovered, so the Stars cannot use that injury to explain her lack of minutes this season. She’s also a rookie who will have the same growing pains of any other rookie. But young players need time to develop, and she can only do that by being on the court.
But the Spurs were a shell of themselves in high-leverage situations with their all-world forward off the floor.
After Leonard left Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals with an ankle injury, San Antonio blew a 23-point lead and ceded defeat to Golden State. The Warriors eventually swept the Spurs and won a championship in the most dominant postseason display in NBA history.

If Kawhi had some help at the point guard position, however, the outcome of that West series may have been different. Tony Parker ruptured his quad in San Antonio’s second-round series against the Rockets. The Spurs played point guard by committee, with Leonard serving as the primary ball handler and Jonathon Simmons, Patty Mills, and Dejounte Murray filling in.

Gerald McCoy has already emerged as a star of this season of Hard Knocks featuring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His best moment so far came at the end of the second episode, as McCoy demonstrated dance moves to get clarity from Ed Hochuli on the NFL’s new celebration rules.
The league did relax the rules on celebrations, but certain things are still going to be flagged. Any kind of pelvic thrusting or twerking or sexually suggestive dance still isn’t going to fly. But in this case, McCoy seems to be right. That wasn’t sexual. Those are just McCoy’s knees.
After a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend descended into chaos, citizens in Tampa asked Hillsborough County on Wednesday to relocate a monument from their city. The citizens were tasked with raising the money themselves for the statue to come down and just one day later, a $140,000 goal was reached.
Among the donations was $5,000 from former Buccaneers head coach Tony Dungy, who challenged the Buccaneers, Rays, and Lightning to help the cause.
On Thursday, the three teams answered Dungy’s call and released a joint statement on pitching in to remove the Confederate monument from downtown Tampa.
“Recognizing that this monument does not reflect the values of our community, in collaboration with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, our organizations have dedicated funds to assist in moving the statue from the public space in front of the courthouse,” the statement reads. “Now more than ever before, we must stand united and committed to diversity and inclusion as we all attempt to heal from the tragedy in Charlottesville.”

At the fore of Bettman’s concerns, the NHL wants compensation in the form of marketing and sponsorship rights for having to shut down the league for 2 1/2 weeks while players represent their counties at the Games. That, and assurances the IOC will backtrack on its decision to not pay for player injury insurance and transportation costs.
The NHL, by and large, is divided on the broad issue of not sending players to the Olympics for the first time since 1994.
Its biggest stars, including Alex Ovechkin and Erik Karlsson, have been vocal in wanting to participate, with their respective owners taking varying stances.
Colin White deserves some credit, too, since his goal in the third period tied the game 4-all and capped a stretch of four goals in 5 minutes, 15 seconds, rallying Team USA back from a two-goal deficit or the second time in the game. Everyone can thank White for the exhaustive, enthralling back-and-forth overtime that followed.
It would have went down as a memorable tournament for the Americans regardless of the outcome, especially in the wake of the stinker their men’s national team counterparts put forth in the World Cup of Hockey earlier this year.
For one, the Team USA finished 7-0 in the tournament for the first time ever. And its semifinal win over Russia was the first ever against the nation in a medal round at the World Juniors. Not to mention the U.S., which beat Canada in group play, scored a sweep of their rivals for the first time in history.

Limited Kids Dwight Clark Jersey More than 99 percent of minor league baseball players can be put into one of three buckets. Some are real prospects with a chance at one day hacking it in the majors. Other players are organizational roster fillers — org guys, as scouts might call them — with no real hope of a big league career. Others are what you might call Quad-A players who spend their time shuttling between the bigs and AAA.
There’s a fourth bucket: athletes from other sports who try to make the mid-career switch from some other sport to baseball. I want to talk about two of those players.
The best player in basketball retired in 1993 and tried his hand on the diamond in 1994. Jordan’s tenure in pro baseball was fascinating, but it didn’t last long. He played one season with the White Sox’ Double-A affiliate, the Birmingham Barons. (Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf also owns the Bulls.) He was back on the hardwood in 1995.
His floor is probably as an average major league starter, after all, which is valuable, especially when paired with a pre-arbitration contract.
You know what team would be really, really into a solid major leaguer at bargain rates? The Mets. Because they’re still screwed up by a Ponzi scheme from years ago, and they probably will be for a while. They are a long way from harnessing the power that should come from playing in the biggest media market in the country, and they need all the cheap players they can get.

What they would want to trade Lugo, then, is either to a) have secret doubts about his durability and have a reason to sell high, or b) be overwhelmed with an offer they can’t refuse. There’s no evidence for the first one, so I would assume the Mets wouldn’t trade Lugo unless they were planning on restocking the farm or filling immediate needs in the lineup.
Much has been made of the Patriots’ new, fancy private planes. Robert Kraft is clearly unable to do anything halfway, so the team purchased two planes to retro-fit them so an entire team of football players can fly first class to games rather than chartering flights for eight away games each year.

That’s part of why the cost for Quintana was so high, but the Cubs had the urgency to make this kind of move. Now it’s the White Sox who are starting to build up an exciting group of young pieces in Chicago, too.
The Seahawks’ 2017 schedule is exactly what they need in the regular season to find their way back to home-field advantage in the playoffs. No NFC team can boast having a more favorable strength of schedule based on the combined 2016 winning percentage of its 2017 opponents (.455).

That confidence in himself, along with the knowledge that the Cowboys have the best offensive line in the league coming back this season, and two running backs who have amassed five 1,000-yard seasons between them in their careers keep Prescott from being too worried about the upcoming season.
“We have great running backs,” Prescott said Tuesday after the team’s walk-through (via ESPN.com). “Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris. Those guys have had a lot of success in this league for a long time. It’s just an opportunity for them to come in and get more reps in that time off.”
In the meantime, Prescott said Elliott has stayed positive since the suspension was announced.
“He’s been a positive spirit, been the same Zeke, and that’s good for him and that’s good for this team,” Prescott said.

But teams’ to-do lists are far from all checked off. Let’s take a look at six questions that need to be answered between now and 4 p.m. ET today, when the non-waiver trade deadline hits. These aren’t the only questions, of course, but that’s the fun of deadline day, right?
I wrote about this a bit more in-depth earlier, but even as good as the Dodgers are — and they are a great team on an incredible run — their World Series chances would be dramatically increased if they can add another top-line starter to their postseason rotation behind Clayton Kershaw. But few teams value their prospects as much as the Dodgers — and with the instant impacts of guys such as Corey Seager and Clay Bellinger — so will they trade the prospects necessary is a legitimate question. Yu Darvish seems like the perfect fit, but lots of available guys would work, too. Still feel like they’re a dark horse for A’s ace Sonny Gray.

Elite Womens Duron Harmon Jersey After seeing the Cubs stumble out of the gate this season, Sandberg acknowledged a World Series hangover.
As a very young team, they experienced a lot last year with what it took to win a world championship, especially for the Chicago Cubs and their drought, Sandberg said. Now for those young players to grow the next year after winning the World Series … There’s been a lot more responsibility and spotlight since that last ball was caught off of the baseball field, which I think comes with the territory. So, I think there was an adjustment process there.
I felt like once they got to the All-Star break, they’d regroup and refocus and see the goal much closer and get everything together and really go after the division.

For comparison’s sake, the league as a whole owns a .426 slugging percentage in 2017. Leadoff hitters sit just 38 points behind cleanup hitters in slugging percentage this season, where that difference was 81 points in 1980. The increase in power from the leadoff spot is unmistakable, and some teams are beginning to construct their lineups around it.
One item that stands out from the data above is the slugging percentage for the very first at-bat from each team. One of the Rays’ leadoff hitters, Steven Souza Jr., told Sporting News how he believes it has come to fruition.
If NFL players want the kind of money their counterparts in the NBA or MLB are getting, or things like guaranteed contracts, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman says they’re going to have to strike in 2021 when the current labor deal lapses.
Sherman was asked about it before the ESPYs on Wednesday night:

The OT was picked by the Ravens 23rd overall in the 2009 NFL draft out of Ole Miss. He went on to compete in every single game for the first five years of his career. While in Baltimore, Oher never missed a game due to injury, and walked away with a Super Bowl ring for the 2012 season.
It wasn’t until he signed with the Titans in 2014 that things started to change. Oher initially signed a four-year contract with the team, worth $20 million. Oher had his first incomplete season in Tennessee, only suiting up for 11 games that year. He finished the year on IR thanks to a lingering toe injury.
After a short stint with the Titans — who released him in early 2016 — Oher made his way to the Carolina Panthers. There, he once again played a full 16-game season in 2015, and earned a new three-year, $21.6 million deal because of it. The Panthers protected their investment, with a potential out in 2018 that would turn his latest deal into a two-year contract worth $12.25 million.
That option seemed more and more likely after a 2016 season that resulted in only three starts for Oher before eventually being placed on IR. The left tackle developed concussion-like symptoms ahead of the Panthers’ Week 4 contest against Atlanta. He never returned to the practice field, and after his return timetable wasn’t predictable, the team decided they needed to fill his roster spot.
Browns head coach Hue Jackson confirmed second-year quarterback Cody Kessler will begin the team’s training camp as its starting quarterback.
Now, Brown’s Browns are set for the first step of a revival. The young executive is building from the trenches outward, ensuring a bright future on both the offensive and defensive lines. Keeping his quarterbacks upright will give the offense room to improve. Producing a play-busting push up front will help cover up the deficiencies that burn through the rest of the defensive depth chart.
A defense ranked 29th and 27th in yards allowed per play in 2015 and 2016, respectively, now boasts a handful of potential All-Pros and the depth to avoid the blowouts that marred last season. The question is whether that will make a notable difference in 2017, or if the team’s continued lack of an offensive identity will just turn a string of 27-10 losses into 21-10 losses.
This movie came out in December 2000, a year and a half after the U.S. won the Women’s World Cup. The date is important*, because four months after Buddy’s team wins the state championship, there’s another Women’s World Cup. In the Air Bud Cinematic Universe, the “every four years” World Cup time frame doesn’t exist. You could argue that the filmmakers took artistic license, but this seems a bit much.
The movie is indeed set in 2000, because I double-checked the small print on a spinning newspaper transition.
Anyway, at the 2001 Women’s World Cup final, the United States and Norway have gone on to a penalty shootout to decide the champion. Briana Scurry — who, in real life, made a crucial save for the U.S. in the 1999 final’s shootout — gets injured, leaving everyone worried until the camera pans over to Air Bud, who substitutes for Scurry and clinches the match for the U.S. with his own save.
