Jets’ Lorenzo Mauldin won’t be prosecuted over misdemeanor assault arrest

New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin, who was arrested in June for misdemeanor assault after allegedly attacking a man in an April nightclub altercation, will not face charges after the Manhattan District Attorney declined to prosecute on Tuesday.

“I want to thank everyone who stood behind me,” Mauldin said in a statement. “I was fortunate to have the resources to fight the case and clear my name when, too often, others don’t. I’m glad this is behind me so I can focus on football and the future.”

In his first two seasons, he played in 26 games and recorded 6 1/2 sacks.

For his part, Bryant, who didn’t return after the play, is optimistic: “Extremely blessed it ain’t nothing bad. Everything is stable. My ankle is stable. Just going to be sore. As the week progresses, I’ll get better.”

Bryant is the Cowboys’ leading receiver with 38 catches for 439 yards and four touchdowns. Dallas’ No. 2 receiver in terms of yardage, Terrance Williams (30 for 357 yards), also left Sunday’s game after aggravating an ankle injury he suffered in Week 1 but thus far hasn’t sidelined him..

“It’s just sore. It keeps hurting,” Williams said, via the Star-Telegram. “It’s just one of those things where if somebody hits me too hard it hurts a lot.”nationals_004
